Research Supervision
James is currently supervising 6 students.
Sam Foster: Decision making and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority; Interactions in the regulatory arena of embryonic stem cell research
Emma King: Innovation and regulation interactions in the development of clinical stem cell therapiesHeather Lowrie: Emerging risks in the insurance industry
Caroline Woodside, MSc Translational Medicine: Catalysing academic research translation - key drivers and strategies to direct good practice, funding, and outcome deliveryProject Description: Through two case studies and a series of stakeholder interviews this project will attempt to better understand the barriers and drivers of the translation of scientific understanding and knowledge of disease into clinical benefit. It will also develop an optimal framework that will effectively direct academic translation of research for clinical purposes.
Prof Heinz Zimmerman, MSc Translational Medicine: Attitude, knowledge and implementation of Translational Research/Medicine (TR/TM) at the medical faculty of the University of Bern Project Description: The aims of this project are to 1) define the distribution of basic research, bench to bedside research, TR/TM (bench to bedside and back) and other relevant types of research amongst the medical faculty at the University of Bern; and 2) explore the attitude, knowledge and understanding of TM/TR amongst the medical faculty at the University of Bern. This project will generate data on the proportion of TR/TM compared to other kinds of research and improve knowledge and understanding of the barriers to conducting TR/TM.
Sophie Shott, Biology Honour’s: A Review of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Translational Research Strategy and its Implementation Project Description: This project will provide a comprehensive review of the National Institutes for Health strategy to facilitate Translational Medicine, and critically explore some of the key methods of implementation.
