Innogen Co-Director invited to speak at Royal Society 350th anniversary event

Date Released: 10 November 2009

Professor Robin Williams will leading a session on data at 'Tomorrow's Giants'.

On Thursday 1 July 2010, the Royal Society and Nature are organising a conference involving selected young scientists, entitled Tomorrow's Giants. This is part of an exciting week of celebrations for the Royal Society's 350th anniversary celebrations, including an extended Summer Science Exhibition, all at the Southbank Centre, London.

Tomorrow's Giants will bring together scientists and policymakers to gather scientists' visions of the next 50 years: looking broadly across themes such as people and careers, measuring and assessment, and how to share data.

Participants will be asked what is required to enable academic achievement of the highest quality, putting funding issues to one side and focusing on the concepts and practicalities. What will science be like in 10 years' time? In 50 years? What are the main goals and challenges? What will be the vision of the future for science in 2050?  The idea is clearly not to resolve all the issues surrounding these themes, but to sharpen them, at least, and produce a short report that places them on the agenda of the new government as well as the Royal Society and other funding bodies.
