Appointments to the Human Genetics Commission (HGC)
Date Released: 11 March 2010The HGC, of which Innogen Co-Investigator holds the position of Vice-Chair, seeks 5 new members.
The Human Genetics Commission is the Government’s advisory body on developments in human genetics and how they impact on individuals and society, with a particular focus on ethical, legal and social issues.
We are looking for new members with an outstanding track record and expertise in one of the following areas: primary care; corporate responsibility; media/ public communications; science education/public understanding of science; philosophy/bioethics. You will also have a broad understanding of the science of human genetics and an ability to keep abreast of developments in the field. We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit.
In return, Members are paid £148.59 per day for a time commitment of between 10-15 days a year, including attendance at up to 11 meetings. Quarterly plenary meetings are held at locations throughout the UK with other meetings usually held in London. In addition to travel and subsistence costs, help with childcare expenses is also available. The initial appointment will be for 3 years.
