Mission

Genomics-related science and technology is an area of rapid change in the creation of knowledge and its application in new products and processes.  The ESRC Innogen Centre will look at 'the cutting edge' – where science is taking us and how technology is being shaped – in order to deliver a sound evidence base for decision-making.

The Centre’s aims are to:

• build an innovative programme of fundamental and applied research on the two primary themes - 'Evolution of the new life-science economy' and 'Governance of Innovation in the life sciences'
• strengthen Innogen's acknowledged contributions to interdisciplinary, collaborative research methodology and disseminate findings to academic and stakeholder communities
• conduct a strong and innovative programme of high quality disciplinary research, particularly in science and technology studies, sociology, economics and business studies, law, development studies, risk analysis, policy and regulation.
• engage pro-actively, and in collaboration with the EGN, with stakeholder communities in the UK , Europe and internationally, including:

innovation communities
policy makers and government
publics and stakeholder groups

Innogen will also continue to develop its distinctive focus on globalisation and its particular expertise in empirical research on life-science-based innovation in Africa, India and China.
