Scientists and medics
A Bright Ideas fellowship or residency provides a stimulating and supportive environment in which to reflect on the social aspects and implications of your own field of science or medicine, and to pursue activities that will help you to reach audiences beyond that field. We are always open to suggestions for activities you might undertake. But we offer the following as an indication of the kinds of things you might do:
- research and prepare a review article or opinion piece on the social implications of current developments in genomics
- develop a public engagement activity, for instance a public lecture or a cafe scientifique, a short story or a public exhibition
- prepare a policy brief or CPD session for policy makers
- develop teaching materials for schools
- develop an undergraduate or postgraduate module on the ethical, legal and social aspects of genomics to implement in your own institution
- organise an interdisciplinary workshop to explore the ethical, legal or social implications of current developments in genomics
To advise and assist in developing these kinds of activities, Bright Ideas fellows and residents have access to the full range of resources of the Genomics Forum and the ESRC Genomics Network, including our social scientists, writers and artists in residence, press and communications officers and events organisers.
We welcome enquiries and applications from scientists and medics at all stages of their careers: junior, senior or retired.
