2012 Press Releases

Intrusion by Ken MacLeod Book Launch

Released: 29 February 2012

A single-dose pill has been developed that corrects, without risk, many common genetic errors in a developing foetus.  When a pregnant woman refuses to take The Fix, as the pill is known, she divides friends, family and even the law with a moral dilemma.  Is her decision a private matter of individual choice, or is it tantamount to wilful neglect of her unborn child?

Intrusion, published by Orbit on 1 March 2012, is set in the very near future and is the latest offering from award winning science fiction writer Ken MacLeod.

Join Ken in conversation with Stuart Kelly, Literary Editor of Scotland on Sunday at Pulp Fiction Books, Edinburgh on Thursday 21 March at 6.30pm.

Learn more about Intrusion - described by fellow science fiction author Iain M Banks as “a twistedly clever, frighteningly plausible dystopian glimpse” – while enjoying refreshments and taking the opportunity to secure an author signed copy.

Professor Steve Yearley, Director, ESRC Genomics Forum Policy said:

“As Writer in Residence at the ESRC Genomics Forum Ken MacLeod learned much about how social scientists understand the new life sciences, and joined us in discussions around some of the very social, ethical and legal issues highlighted in his latest work.  Ken remains a close friend of the Forum and we are delighted to be able to celebrate the launch of his latest novel – Intrusion - as part of our programme of Social Sessions.”

This free public event is part of a programme of ESRC Genomics Forum Social Sessions. All Welcome but spaces are limited.

Please book online at: Intrusion - Eventbrite
