ESRC Genomics Network Newsletter
In this issue, John Dupré, Director of Egenis, breaks the bad news that men may still need to worry about their sexual skills, in his response to recent press reports that female sexual responsiveness is genetic. Christine Hauskeller, a research fellow with the same organisation, calls for a decoupling of a person’s identity and their genome in her article Is my genome I? Almut Caspary, research fellow at the ESRC Genomics Forum explores how social science, economics, ethics and law can help the public and policy makers diffuse ‘dangerous ideas’ resulting from genomics research. Flo Ticehurst, Peter Harper (Wales Gene Park) and Buddug Williams (Genetic Interest Group) continue the policy theme in their article Mapping the Landscape of UK Human Genetics Policy Development. Finally Joanna Chataway, James Smith and Dave Wield, from Innogen, suggest why we need to rethink how science and technology is researched and developed in Africa.
In response to readers' comments, we’ve extended the network news and events sections and introduced a page for you to ‘have your say’ on current genomics issues. You can also meet some of the Network community in the ‘people news’ and ‘my working life’ sections.
Your letters, comments or suggestions on this, or future issues, are positively encouraged. A PDF feedback form is available or you can email: gnn@ed.ac.uk
