I originally qualified in medicine and have practiced as a GP in the NHS for many years. I have postgraduate qualifications in Public Health Sciences and Science and Technology Studies (MSc Res Edinburgh). My current PhD research in part of an ESRC funded 1+3 programme.
My research is looking at the interactions which take place in the regulatory arena of embryonic stem cell research. I am examining the negotiations, boundary work and consesnus building between stakeholders in this arena and also attempting to understand how and why those that are excluded are.My work involves interviews with key stakeholders and analysis of policy, administrative and a variety of other relevent documents.I intend to use a social worlds approach to analyse this data but will use other appropriate conceptual and analytical tools where appropriate.
