Liz holds an MSc. by research (with distinction) in African and science and development studies from the University of Edinburgh, a significant departure from her initial field – Literature and English – in which she earned a BA from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya.
Having started her career in mainstream journalism, Liz has amassed close to 14 years working experience in communications, which in the last four years has been in science, research, innovation and development.
In this capacity, Liz has consulted for organisations which include icipe, an insect research institute headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya; the World Bank (Water and Sanitation Program – Africa); Scidev.Net, an online portal that provides professionals in developing countries free access to science news; the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS); the United States Academies of Science - African Science Academies Initiative (ASADI); the United Nations University for Peace and The Caine Prize for African Writing.
Previously, Liz worked in corporate public relations consultancy, handling assignments for leading national and multinational organisations dealing in a range of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), financial services, telecommunications and tourism.
An accomplished writer, including two years as a full-time mainstream journalist, a regular freelance features and ‘op-ed’ writer, Liz is currently a columnist for the Business Daily, Africa’s premier ‘Wallstreet’ journal, printed out of Nairobi.
Liz is a Commonwealth Professional Fellow (2005), and a recipient of the Siemens Profile Awards for Excellence in Science Writing in Africa (2005).
