Human Embryos or Hybrids?
Egenis researchers have developed a role play educational tool which has sparked interest from both national and international learning resource centres. The tool introduces students to stem cell science and its ethical implications, engaging the participants in decision making as a mock research ethics committee. The scenario simulates a realistic situation in which planning, negotiation and decision making are required from each participant.

Sci-Art Workshops
Egenis has organised a series of Sci-Art workshops which bring scientists and artists together to discuss their practice in a public forum. This document offers a template for other organisations to use to run their own Sci-Art workshops.

Is embryo research the limit?
The ethics of embryo research are the subject of vigorous debate. This resource offers an opportunity to bring that debate into the classroom. It was developed with the support of the ESRC as an event for the Festival of Social Science. Through this interactive workshop designed by Egenis researchers, GCSE students can learn more about embryo research and consider the ethical debates around the issue from a variety of different perspectives.
This resource offers an overall workshop guide (opens as pdf) setting out the background to and the structure of the workshop. There is a slide presentation to introduce the topic and to begin the debate. You will need someone to lead the workshop, using the workshop timetable (opens as pdf) to help the leader ask questions, move the slides on, and collect the students’ responses. As well as the leader, you will need three other adults or older students to lead the group discussions, for whom discussion prompts (opens as pdf) are provided.
