Title: Dr. Job Title: Research Fellow Fax: Email: Building: Room Number:
My first degree was in the Social Sciences specialising in politics, at the University of the West of England. Whilst working in the catering industry I took my Masters in Ecology and Society, again at the University of the West of England, where I developed a particular interest in the intersection between radical environmentalism and organic farming. This theme became the basis of my PhD, which focussed on the Discourse of Organic Farming as it developed in the latter half of the twentieth century. At the end of my doctoral studies I took up a post on the 'Farmers of the Edge' project at the University of Plymouth, looking at the experience of farming families in Devon in the agricultural recession and the foot and mouth disease outbreak. I then moved to the Centre for Rural Research at the University of Exeter, working on a baseline study of the Food Economy in Cornwall, The Impact of Organic Farming Rural Economy in England, the Rural Stress Review and Knowledge Transfer between farmers in Cornwall. Before coming to Egenis I worked on the ESRC project ‘The Discourse of the Promotion of Organic Foods" at the Centre for Communication and Language at the Open University.
