Evolution Rocks

Date Released: 19 May 2009

Co-director part of the line-up at Lyme Regis fossil festival

Professor Steve Hughes held a Café Scientifique at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival, 'Evolution Rocks' in May.

In his talk, 'Floating laboratories sometimes rock', Professor Hughes spoke about artists who have accompanied voyages of exploration, including those who travelled on HMS Beagle with Darwin.

'Evolution Rocks' ran from 22-24 May and featured interactive exhibitions and art projects, fossil-hunting walks, and talks and lectures. The Fossil Festival has been an annual event since 2005, and this year celebrated the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin's On the Origin of Species.

Professor Hughes' talk was an Exeter Café Scientifique outreach event and follows his Café at Exmouth Library, 'On Board with Darwin', which explored the work of Beagle artist and one-time Exmouth resident Conrad Martens
