Patents and the Future of GM

An article published in Nature on 10th Feb demonstrates that transfers of DNA to plant cells is not, as was previously assumed, restricted to an Agrobacterium. This could mean new approaches to the construction of genetically modified plants. Agrobacterium GM is currently dominated by the patents of two large companies, Syngenta and Monsanto.
