Final Tree of Life meeting
Date Released: 15 July 2010The 'Questioning the Tree of Life' network met for the last time in London this month.
The final meeting of the Leverhulme Trust-funded network was held on 10-11 July. It tackled the theme of 'Beyond the Tree of Life', and generated extensive cross-disciplinary discussion as well as superb presentations on the most up-to-the-minute knowledge in the field.
Our usual mix of biologists (including biostatisticians and computational scientists), philosophers and historians was supplemented by artist/designer, Daisy Ginsberg, who provoked a lot of discussion on the 'synthetic kingdom' of life. A further set of publications is planned to follow on from the meeting, with the first target being the open-access journal, Biology Direct.
