Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an autosomal dominant disorder that can be diagnosed clinically or using DNA diagnostics. DNA cascade screening for FH has recently been introduced in Scotland. In this paper I will describe patients’ (n=38) reactions to and views of DNA diagnostics. I will argue that the way in which FH is diagnosed may affect patients’ views of the immutability and nature of FH. Recent debates about the nature of “Geneticisation” will be considered.
