ESRC Genomics Network Conference 2012 - Genomics in Society: Facts, Fictions and Cultures

23 & 24 April 2012 - The British Library, St Pancras, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB

The ESRC Genomics Network (EGN) was established in 2002, and this 2012 conference organised by Egenis, one of the Network partners, will present the scope of research excellence in the social sciences of current bioscience innovation and celebrate a decade of academic achievement in the social sciences.

More than a decade on from the publication of the full sequence of the human genome, genomic science and its social and technical applications and developments remain in flux and continue to raise concerns. There are great expectations that the life sciences, including genomics, are ideally positioned to deliver solutions to global challenges relating to health, food, and energy. Simultaneously, policy makers, and the public are concerned about social changes and the protection of ethical goods on the one hand and cultural and institutional obstacles to the delivery of the benefits from the life sciences on the other hand.

Egenis is the ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society. Egenis undertakes cutting-edge research on the interpretation and implications of contemporary biomedical sciences.  Particular features of Egenis research are its interdisciplinarity and its detailed engagement with natural scientists and medical researchers.
