Exploring the $1000 Genome

Date Released: 14 May 2010

Cesagen's collaborative public engagement project with the Wales Gene Park and Techniquest, exhibits artwork at BayArts in Cardiff

Researchers from Cesagen are involved in a collaborative project with the Wales Gene Park and Techniquest, which culminates with an exhibition of the artwork produced throughout the project. The work will be shown at BayArts, Bute Street, Cardiff next Wednesday - 19th May, 7-9pm.

We will be showing the artwork produced by young people we have been working with on a public engagement project, funded by the Beacon for Wales, which explores social and ethical issues related to the concept of “The $1000 Genome”. This event will highlight the project and its outcomes to those who are involved or would like to be involved in public engagement.

We used a variety of different methods to engage with young people from Butetown Youth Pavillion and from Parc Prison in Bridgend, working with a local artist to create artwork that expresses some of the discussions and views that emerged throughout the project.

Refreshments will be served and there will be a brief introduction to the project at approximately 7:45pm.

Those involved with the project will be happy to tell you more about the project and hear your feedback about the work displayed.

All welcome, but RSVP for catering purposes to Claudine Anderson (andersoncn@cf.ac.uk, tel. 029 2047 5475) by Tuesday 18 May.
