We need to talk about Kevin, directed by Lynne Ramsey and adapted from the novel by Lionel Shriver, is the focus of the next Cardiff sciSCREEN event. Tilda Swinton stars as Eva, a mother desperately haunted by the horrific actions of her teenage son, who engineers a high-school killing spree which shakes their community and leaves him in prison. The film opened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has received widespread critical acclaim.
This screening will include an opportunity for discussion and debate. After the film there will be a wine reception and a panel discussion involving a philosopher, a geneticist and two professors of psychology with experience in psychopathy and forensics. The discussion will cover themes brought up by the film including: the nature nurture debate, child development, postnatal depression, and responsibility and blame.
